A new study has found that tiny hairs found in the roots of plants play a key role in helping to reduce soil erosion. The research, led by the university of Bristol and published in communications biology, provides compelling evidence that when root hairs interact with the surrounding soil, they reduce soil erosion and improve soil cohesion by binding to soil particles.

Researchers at the universities of Bristol and Exeter have revealed that microscopic root hairs play a crucial role in binding and strengthening the soil.
